The lawyer representing the five Celtic fans convicted of violent disorder against police in the Netherlands is planning to help the club investigate the events that led to the offences.

Christian Visser said he would be passing on complaints that he had received about the behaviour of police officers to the legal team set up by Celtic to establish what happened before the team's clash with Ajax on November 6.

His comments came after it emerged that Amsterdam-based lawyer Jebbink Soeteman had received the first 25 of 200 complaints from Celtic fans describing how they were harassed or assaulted by police prior to the start of the game.

Mr Visser said he would now be forwarding similar complaints to the legal investigators.

"We have also received complaints and we will be working together to see what we can do with them," Mr Visser said.

Mr Soeteman is planning to evaluate the complaints before deciding whether to make an official complaint to the Amsterdam police or to approach the city's chief public prosecutor to determine whether individual officers could be charged.

The five men convicted by a Dutch court last week were handed sentences of between two months and four weeks but their appeals are due to be heard next month. The men have all been bailed.
