Leading crossword compiler reveals terminal illness in own puzzle

A newspaper crossword setter has used one of his own puzzles to announce his terminal illness.

The Rev John Graham, 91, who goes by the pseudonym Araucaria and is widely regarded as one of the doyens of the profession, revealed he was dying of cancer in yesterday's Guardian.

Above a cryptic crossword was the message: "Araucaria has 18 down of the 19, which is being treated with 13 15."
