Lecturers not sharing in university cash

A TEACHING union has claimed university lecturers are suffering financially while their institutions thrive with multi-million pound reserves.

Figures obtained by the EIS show Scotland's higher education establishments had reserves of around £2.6 billion at the end of 2010-2011 – an increase of £600 million since 2009. The union claims this wealth is not being shared with staff, whose pay has been declining for the past three years.
