Police have launched an investigation into allegations of abuse directed at Celtic manager Neil Lennon during a football match on Saturday.

Lennon's agent, Martin Reilly, said on February 1 that Lennon had coins thrown at him and was spat upon during the league cup semi-final at Tynecastle.

Lennon walked out of the stadium shortly after Adam Rooney scored the third goal in the 62nd minute of Aberdeen's 4-0 victory.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Following high profile media reporting of abuse directed at Celtic manager Neil Lennon during the Aberdeen v St Johnstone match at Tynecastle on Saturday February 1, Police Scotland is currently carrying out inquiries into the allegations."
