The 18-year-old, from Newton Stewart, was driving a Mitsubishi Shogun 4x4 which was hit by the two-carriage Glasgow to Stranraer passenger train at the crossing near Stranraer at around 1.45pm yesterday.
He was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, while the train passengers and the train driver were also treated for shock and minor injuries.
