A KILT maker has condemned a supermarket's "budget" Highland wear - and called on the Scottish Government to arrange protected status for the traditional clothing.
Supermarket chain Lidl has unveiled plans to sell a range of cheap kilts, sporrans and bagpipes in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games.
The kilts will go on sale later this month for just under £20 - a fraction of the cost of a traditionally made kilt.
But head of the Keith Kilt and Textile Centre, Linda Gorn, branded the supermarket products a "disgrace" and called on the Scottish Government to guard Highland wear from imitations - in the same way Scotch whisky has protected status.
