ROYAL Air Force jets have carried out a flawless scramble to intercept two Russian military aircraft.

Fighter jets based at RAF Lossiemouth, based in Moray, carried out a Quick Reaction Alert.

It is the first time such an alert has been issued since the Moray base took over the role of defending the UK's northern airspace from RAF Leuchers on September 1.

The Typhoon jets were scrambled to identify the planes, in international airspace.
