A £1 million National Lottery ticket holder has lost out on the prize.

Organisers Camelot say the ticket was bought in East Ayrshire on November 22 last year, but the 180 day deadline has now expired.

The final chance to cash in the ticket passed at midnight on Thursday.

The good news is that National Lottery-funded projects across the UK will benefit.

A Lottery spokesperson said: "The ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.

"To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.

"We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it's a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner - the nation.

"This money, and all the interest earned over the 180 days, will now go to benefit projects all over the UK funded by The National Lottery."

Camelot say the schemes have lives of individuals as well as communities - players raise on average, over £34 million for National Lottery-funded projects every week.

Since the lottery began in 1994, £33 billion has been raised by National Lottery players, which has been awarded to National Lottery-funded projects across the arts, sports, heritage, health, education, environment, charity and voluntary sectors.

They point to projects in the area where the ticket was bought which have benefited, including £8,400 for a new community hub in Crosshouse, near Kilmarnock and £6,000 of funding will allow a group to take on five sessional workers for the summer in New Cumnock.

Anyone who believes they have the winning ticket within the deadline should call the National Lottery Line on 0845 910 0000.
