Transport Scotland, which is co-ordinating rail and road services around the visit of Pope Benedict XVI on September 16, said closures were necessary to make sure traffic flows smoothly on the day.
Roads will be closed and trains cancelled as tens of thousands of pilgrims pour into Edinburgh and Glasgow to see the Pope.
