FUNDRAISERS behind the campaign to bring clean, safe lighting to Malawi are organising an "alternative" corporate bonding day out at Gleneagles.
Businesses and organisations are being asked to pay £400 for a five-person ticket which see teams embark on challenges including a haggis hunt at the prestigious Perthshire golfing venue.
The teams will have to unravel clues in the treasure hunt-style game, which is being sponsored by butchers Simon Howie.
The event, which will be held from 9am to 1pm on Friday January 30, will also incorporate a whistle-stop tour of Gleneagles, falconry, and pitch and putt. The ticket price includes transport, refreshments and entertainment, with proceeds going to the Scotland Lights Up Malawi project which has so far raised £323,000 since launching in May last year.
Ruth Milliken, fundraising coordinator for the Lights Up Malawi project, said: "We wanted to organise a fun, alternative day out of networking events. We wanted to set ourselves apart from the usual corporate day outs with something different than the usual team building exercises."
Fundraisers are aiming to raise their initial Phase One target on £400,000 by the beginning of February, with an ultimate aim to generate £2,020,000 in donations - tying in with the goal of helping to eradicate kerosene lamps, batteries and candles in Malawi by 2020.
The group has brought together experts from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB) and SolarAid.
It is now turning to schools across Scotland to help drive the fundraising forward with a more community-based, rather than corporate, approach in the year ahead. So far 35 schools - as far afield as Orkney and Dumfries and Galloway - have signed up to help.
"We are very fortunate with the progress so far, said Ms Milliken. "We are excited to see what the next year has in store."
