Police are hunting two people in connection with the attempted murder of a man in a street.
The 32-year-old victim was stabbed in Mavis Road, Greenock, Inverclyde, at about 8pm yesterday but managed to make his way to a friend's house on nearby Wren Road where an ambulance was called.
The man suffered head and abdominal injuries. He is in a stable condition in Inverclyde Royal Hospital, police said.
The attack involved two men but there is no description at the moment as officers have been unable to speak to the victim.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack to contact them.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: "At this time we are unaware of the full circumstances of the attack and hope to speak to the injured man soon, but we need the help of the public to trace those responsible.
"At that time of night, there is a good chance someone in the surrounding area may have seen or heard the disturbance, or noticed anyone acting suspiciously, and I would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
"Anyone with information that may assist us with our enquiry can contact Greenock CID on the non-emergency number 101 or in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
