A man has been arrested after independence referendum ballot papers were apparently posted for sale online.

The 28-year-old was arrested in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow today in connection with an alleged breach of election law, Police Scotland said.

He has been reported to the procurator fiscal over an alleged contravention of Schedule 7 of the Scottish Independence Referendum Act 2013.

An investigation was launched earlier this week after a number of people apparently attempted to sell their votes for September 18 on internet auction site eBay, which has since removed the items.

An eBay spokesman said at the time: "The Electoral Commission has an agreement in place where we remove upon request any items posted on eBay that relate to an individual's vote where the commission has concerns that this could lead to the law being broken.''
