A man has been arrested after a 16-hour siege at his house.

Officers were called to the scene in Syme Road in Lochside, Dumfries, at around 6pm last night.

Trained police negotiators were brought in to talk to the man, who was alone in the building.

Police Scotland said a 55-year-old man was arrested at around 10.30am today.

The area surrounding the house was cordoned off while police dealt with the incident.

Superintendent Bobby Moore said: "Whilst this was a protracted incident which lasted over 14 hours, the immediate area was cordoned off very quickly by officers and the public were at no time in any danger."
