A MAN has been arrested over the disappearance of a car belonging to a jeweller who was found dead in suspicious circumstances.

The body of Alan Gardner, 49, was discovered at his home in Balbeggie in Perthshire at lunchtime on Thursday.

His blue Toyota Rav, which was initially unaccounted for, was later discovered in Perth on Friday evening following a police appeal.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the car's disappearance and is due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court today.

Meanwhile, Police Scotland confirmed that enquiries into Mr Gardner's death are still ongoing.

A spokesman said: "We can now confirm that a 30 year old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the disappearance of Mr Gardner's motor car and is expected to appear at Perth Sherriff Court.

"The enquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mr Gardner's death is currently ongoing and his death is still being treated as suspicious at this time."

Forensic teams have been seen coming and going from Mr Gardner's property where he ran a jewellery business making and repairing rings, bracelets and watches.

Following his death, neighbours described him as a "good lad" and an active member of the village.
