A man has suffered a serious injury to his face in a violent attack in a quiet street.

The 31-year-old was assaulted in Baillieston, Glasgow, at around 9pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary after being set-upon by a lone man in South Scott Street.

Police Scotland said an unidentified member of the public tried to help the victim as he made his way to a friend's house after the incident.

The suspect, who ran off towards Main Street, is described as white, around 30, 5ft 11in and of medium build. He was wearing a dark tracksuit top and bottoms and a black skip cap.

Detective Constable David Oates, of Greater Glasgow CID, has appealed for information.

He said: "The victim has sustained a significant facial injury as a result of this violent attack and it is vital we trace and apprehend the person responsible.

"The area where this attack occurred is generally considered a quiet residential location and I'm conscious there may have been members of the public in and around the area at the time who may have seen the suspect or the victim and can offer information which assists our investigation."

DC Oates said he is particularly keen to speak to the person who tried to help the victim minutes after the attack.
