A 33-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with multiple alleged house break-ins in the capital.

Wayne Gaff (cor), who is of no fixed address, was remanded in custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday after he was charged with breaking into 10 properties. In four case he was charged with intent to steal.

He is also charged with trying to break into a further three properties with intent to steal and four further allegations of theft.

Mr Gaff is also charged with theft by opening a locked place and attempting to open a locked place, a single charge of theft, theft of a motor vehicle and three alleged breaches of the Road Traffic Act.

He has been charged with two drugs offences.

Gaff also faces four allegations under the Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1995, the Licensing Act and two offences under the Civil Government Act.

Mr Gaff made no plea or declaration and is due to re-appear in court later this week.

Meanwhile, police in Fife have called for householders to take extra care in locking up their properties during the longer daylight hours after a string of break-ins.

It follows a number of incidents on Friday between 7pm and 8pm in the Haven and other areas of Dalgety Bay.

Several residential properties were searched by the suspects and various items including jewellery were stolen.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.
