A man has been convicted of throwning a beer bottle at the world's fastest man as he geared up to defend his title at the London Olympics.

Ashley Gill-Webb, 34, who claimed he was the Scottish actor Alan Cumming after being arrested, aimed the Heineken bottle at the track where Usain Bolt was limbering up.

Gill-Webb, from South Milford, near Leeds, who had entered a VIP area of the Olympic stadium without a ticket was found guilty at Stratford Magistrates' Court of a public order offence.

The bipolar affective disorder sufferer pushed his way to the front of an exclusive seating area at the stadium and shouted: "Usain, I want you to lose. Usain, you are bad," the court heard last week.

After the event, Gill-Webb was tackled by Dutch judo champion Edith Bosch before his arrest.

Gill-Webb was suffering from a manic episode at the time, with an urge to be "involved" in the Olympics, the court heard.

Psychiatrists said he was suffering from a manic episode but disagreed on whether or not he could not form intent.

Gill-Webb, who had two previous convictions, originally denied throwing the bottle, but his DNA was found on it.

Gill-Webb's wife, who was in the public gallery, wept as he was convicted of both charges.

He was bailed ahead of sentencing next month, which will be community based.
