A man has died after a fire broke out at a city flat.

Emergency crews were called to Gordon Street, Edinburgh, at 12.21pm today.

Firefighters brought the fire under control using breathing apparatus and a high pressure hose reel.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "The tragic loss of life must always bring home the importance of working together to prevent fires and raise awareness of how to be safer from the risk of fire."

A joint police and fire investigation will take place to establish the cause of the blaze.
