A MAN has died following a fire at a building in the Scottish Borders.

The victim, who has not yet been named, was found by firefighters as they tackled a blaze at premises known as the Old Village Hall in Nenthorn, near Kelso.

Two fire crews were initially called to the scene at 8.36am on Sunday, before further assistance was sought.

A total of 30 firefighters eventually attended the "well-developed" blaze.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "Firefighters with breathing apparatus made entry to the building and fought a well-developed fire using main hose jets.

"As crews fought the fire, a body was then found in the building.

"A joint investigation between SFRS and Police Scotland is now ongoing into the cause of the fire."
