A man has died after he was hit by three cars on a motorway.

The man, thought to be in his 20s, was hit by an Audi A3, a Vauxhall Vectra and a Volkswagen Scirocco at around 5.15am this morning.

He died at the scene on the M73 near to Gartcosh in North Lanarkshire.

Police Scotland said that inquiries are at an early stage and appealed for information.

Police said that the drivers of the vehicles were not injured, but were left badly shaken as a result of the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are at an early stage and officers are working to establish the exact details of the incident.

"Any witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist police enquiries should contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency number 101."
