Man charged over hospital assaults

A man has been arrested and charged by police over two assaults at a psychiatric hospital.

The 49-year-old man was detained by police in the grounds of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in the Morningside area of the city yesterday evening.

Two people, a 43-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man, sustained "superficial injuries" during the incident.

Police cordoned off the area and staff, patients and local residents were told to stay inside as armed officers searched the area.

The man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later today.
