A murder inquiry has been launched following the death of a teenager after an early-hours disturbance.

The 17-year-old man is believed to have been stabbed during the incident in Simon Crescent, Methil, Fife, at around 2am today.

He was subsequently taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where he died.

A man has been detained in connection with the incident.

Police who were called to the scene set up cordons around the street and asked residents for their patience as they carried out inquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Fife are investigating the murder of a 17-year-old man following a disturbance in Simon Crescent, Methil, at around 2.10am on Tuesday April 8.

"A male has been detained in connection with this incident."
