A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a missing teenager.

John Davis, 25, is accused of killing 19-year-old Hazel North, whose body was found in a park in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, on Monday.

Mr Davis, who lives in the town, made no plea or declaration at the town's sheriff court and was remanded in custody.

Ms North, from Dunfermline in Fife, last spoke to her family on March 4 when she told her sister she was travelling to Kilmarnock to meet a friend.

Mr Davis is accused of murder, assault and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. He will appear in court again on April 3.

A forensic tent was set up at the location of the discovery of Ms North's body in Dean Park on Monday. A post-mortem examination is believed to have taken place.
