Man kept in custody after case dropped

A MAN spent two weeks in prison on a charge that had already been dropped by prosecutors thanks to a Crown blunder, a court heard yesterday.

Max MacAskill, 25, had been remanded in custody accused of stealing games console controllers from a branch of Game in Dundee.

He denied the charge when he appeared from custody on August 6 – and was locked up ahead of a trial scheduled for later this month. On August 20, prosecutors wrote to Dundee Sheriff Court saying there was to be no further action against Mr MacAskill.
