Police have launched a murder inquiry after a 59-year-old man was stabbed to death on a bus.

The victim was attacked as he boarded the service at Dumbarton Road, off Yoker Ferry Road in the Yoker area of Glasgow, at 4.45pm yesterday.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to the Western Infirmary but died shortly after arrival.

The incident took place on the M11 service operated by First Bus from Gartnavel Hospital to Clydebank, via Anniesland, at the bus stop outside a branch of Kwik-Fit. Police are examining CCTV footage from the bus and witnesses are asked to contact Partick police office on 0141 532 3500.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 4.45pm police attended a report that a man had been seriously assaulted by another man on the bus. He was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary. Inquiries are ongoing."

A First Glasgow spokesman said: "We are assisting the police with their inquiries."
