US rap star Nicki Minaj is to meet with a Glasgow man who bravely fought off a sex attacker.

Abdull Oun, 27, from Bailleston, sprinted to the woman's aid after he heard screams as he jogged round Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park.

The brave nightclub worker knocked out the attacker with a flying kick.

The incident happened last year and the story went viral on microblogging site Tumbler. It was spotted by Carol Minaj, mum to Nicki. She was so impressed by his bravery she asked Abdull if he would meet Nikki ahead of her performance in Glasgow next month.

The singer's record label Young Money Entertainment said Nicki had been a victim of domestic abuse and the star now actively campaigns against violence against women.

The Anaconda star will bring her The Pinkprint tour to Scotland on April 12 - the final show on her international schedule.

Abdull, who is originally from Tripoli, was on his second lap of Kelvingrove Park, when he heard screams just after 2am on June 15 last year.

Abdull, who works in Glasgow's Yes Bar, said the incident had had a profound effect on him and he now volunteers at Rape Crisis Glasgow.

He said: "I got an email from her management company. I was shocked.

"At first I thought it was a joke. Then I was contacted by Carol Minaj. She said Nicki had been a victim of domestic abuse and that she would like her daughter to meet me.

"I told her, 'you don't have to thank me'.

"The incident in Kelvingrove Park really changed me. It changed the whole way I thought about women.

"I just want to raise awareness about the issue and it's a good platform for us to do that.

"I want people to understand the effects domestic violence and rape has on people."

Around 20 people who have been affected by sexual violence and domestic abuse will be invited to meet the star with Abdull at a secret location.
