Campaigners marched yesterday in a cross-party demonstration calling for an end to racism in Scotland.
Politicians, trade unionists and faith groups all gathered in Glasgow yesterday for the annual St Andrew’s Day march against racism.
The Scottish Trade Union Congress organised the demonstration, attended by 1,500 marchers, to remind people of the “dangers” of allowing prejudice and discrimination to go unchallenged.
Secretary of State for Scotland Jim Murphy, joined the march through Glasgow city centre.
Mr Murphy said: “Racism has no place in a modern society and the vast majority of people in Scotland embrace equality and diversity openly.
“But it is a sad fact that a very small minority insist on judging people by the colour of their skin and their ethnic background.
“Today is about making a stand and saying to those people that their views are not welcome, as well as saying to the world that we in Scotland will not tolerate their views.”
