McAvoy shines in dark tragedy

SCOTTISH actor James McAvoy has become the toast of the town for his performance as Macbeth on the London stage.

The 33-year-old has won near universal praise from critics, celebrities and members of the public for his "bloody" and "intense" take on the Scottish tyrant.

McAvoy, who has appeared in The Last King Of Scotland, X Men: First Class and The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, takes the lead in one of Shakespeare's darkest plays on the stage of the Trafalgar Studio in Whitehall.
