HEATHER Stanning and her team-mate Helen Glover's historic win is to be celebrated on a special stamp that will be on sale from today.

Royal Mail produced the stamp within 24 hours to mark Team GB's first gold medal moment of London 2012.

Stanning and her partner are the first all-female sports team to appear on a Royal Mail stamp, as well as the first members of Team GB to appear on one of the postal service's gold medal stamps.

She will also be the first Scot to appear on a gold medal stamp, which will feature an image of the pair smiling and waving to supporters following their win. It will be on sale in more than 500 Post Office branches from today, and Stanning's home town of Lossiemouth, Moray, from tomorrow.

The coastal town and Glover's hometown of Penzance, Cornwall, will also see one of their red post boxes painted gold to mark their mammoth achievement.

Cyclist Bradley Wiggins will also be recognised on a stamp after winning a gold medal in the men's time trial.

Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene said: "We're delighted to be issuing these very special Gold Medal stamps to recognise our Olympic champion UK athletes. This is a first for Royal Mail and we are proud to play our part in celebrating the victories this summer."
