Mercury rises

GLASGOW University students Beth Dorrans and Ingrid Martin, both 19, soak up the sunshine in Kelvingrove Park as temperatures remained higher than in parts of the Mediterranean.

Beaches and green spaces were packed as the mercury reached 25C in Glasgow yesterday for the second day in a row. It is expected to remain sunny and over 20C today before it begins to cool slightly towards the end of the week although forecasters said it would remain warmer than average for this time of year.
