The SNP's Mhairi Black picked up the second part of her double-first yesterday as she graduated from Glasgow University.

Last month Mhairi, 20, saw off Labour front-bencher Douglas Alexander in his home seat of Paisley and Renfrewshire South in the General Election.

Yesterday she passed out of Glasgow University with a first class MA (Hons) in Politics after returning to take her exams.

Unlike many graduates she does not have to worry about her choice of career.

Ms Black, who had to return to university to sit her finals after campaigning was over, posted an image of herself with the red scroll on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

She told her 28,000 followers in a tweet: "Overwhelmed by all the messages of support. They're really appreciated. It's been a great day for everyone involved."

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon had messaged her to say: "Well done girl!!"
