MIDGE Ure will perform his signature hit Vienna with a live orchestral backing for the first time at a major concert to mark Scotland's staging of the Ryder Cup.
The singer-songwriter will perform the 80s classic with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) at next month's Ryder Cup Gala Concert.
He is one of several big names, including Texas, Amy Macdonald and Nile Rodgers of Chic, who will perform with the orchestra at the event at Glasgow's SSE Hydro on Wednesday, September 24.
RSNO musicians Davur Juul Magnussen, John Whitener, Alison Murray and Jean Claude Picard chose the unusual setting of The Carrick Golf Course for some rehearsals yesterday ahead of next month's event.
As preparations continue for the prestigious tournament, the coveted Ryder Cup Trophy will visit the "four corners of Scotland" in a whistle-stop helicopter tour that begins next week.
The tour will start in Edinburgh on Thursday as the world's top golfers, led by team captains Tom Watson and Paul McGinley, prepare for the Europe versus United States tournament at Gleneagles in Perthshire from September 26-28.
The trophy, last in Scotland at Muirfield in East Lothian nearly 40 years ago, will then make stops in the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Argyll, Isle of Harris, Shetland and Aberdeenshire, before arriving at Gleneagles, host of the 2014 event that is expected to attract 250,000 visitors.
The week-long tour bac-ked by VisitScotland will take in some of the nation's most spectacular scenery at the most northern, eastern, southern and eastern courses.
At each location, members of the public will have the opportunity to have their picture taken next to the Ryder Cup.
Richard Hills, Europe's Ryder Cup Director, said the tour is about "sharing the magic" and "bringing one of the world's most iconic sporting trophies to the doorsteps of fans and members of the public".
Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said the legacy and economic benefits are set to be felt across Scotland "not just in the accommodation sector, but also travel and transport, Scottish food and drink suppliers, attractions and a wide range of businesses".
"This amazing and ambitious Trophy Tour will see this historic golfing prize travel to four magnificent corners of the country, taking in some of the most spectacular and geographically remote golf courses in the world," he said.
The Ryder Cup Trophy tour ends at Gleneagles Hotel on Wednesday, Sep-tember 10.
