Military bandsmen hit right note with pupils

THE Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland has tutored young musicians before a military-themed concert.

Pupils from five high schools practised alongside the professional brass band players at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary in Glasgow before they performed last night.

Bradley Starkey, a 14-year-old Springburn Academy pupil who plays the tenor saxophone and hopes to enlist as a musician with the Army, said: "It's been hard but its been good. When you get wrong bits with the music or are struggling, they help you out. It gives me more options to go into the band rather than the front line."
