Milk price row nears end after deal struck

The first signs of a thawing in relations in the ongoing milk price war came yesterday after key industry players agreed on the first dairy code of practice in the UK.

Levied industry representative Dairy UK, the National Farmers Union and its Scottish counterpart the NFUS reached agreement on a voluntary code of best practice on contractual relationships between milk buyers and dairy farmers.

The breakthrough comes after widespread protests by farmers over how much they are paid for producing their milk.
