COAL miners who lost their jobs at an opencast site are to get them back after 100 new posts were created.

Mining operator Hargreaves took over Broken Cross in South Lanarkshire after after owners Scottish Coal went into administration in April last year.

The local council successfully led negotiations with the bond holder for the mine, securing funds to restore the site.

Hargreaves Surface Mining Ltd is already extracting the remaining coal and delivering the restoration of the mine and hopes to re-employ members of former workforce and other experienced operatives.

Managing director Peter Gillatt said it was "tremendous news" for the mine and the wider industry.
