Mobile embarrassment

Michael Grant is not the only one who has been caught out by a mobile phone ringing at an inappropriate moment.

Politicians, celebrities and sportsmen have all fallen foul of the badly timed phone call.

In 2009, the then prime minister's speech at the Davos economic forum was interrupted by the chime of his Nokia ringtone. Mr Brown adroitly switched off the device, muttering that whoever was calling was "persistent", although he couldn't resist a smile at the interruption.
