'Monarch of Glen' left £3m fortune

A HIGHLAND laird who inspired the television series Monarch of the Glen left a £3 million fortune in his will.

Lord Burton was the basis for the character of eccentric landowner Hector MacDonald in the BBC drama. The aristocrat, who lived on the Dochfour estate in Inverness-shire, died aged 88 last year.
