THE mother of a schoolgirl killed in an alleged hit and run last month has died.

Marie Maguire, 33, passed away on Sunday after suffering from health problems.

Her death comes just five weeks after her 11-year-old daughter, Sophie Brannan, was stuck and killed by a car near her home in Maryhill, Glasgow on Friday, November 14.

Ms Maguire's death was announced by the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic church in Maryhill.

A statement read: "It is with terrible sadness that we ask your prayers for Marie Maguire.

"She is the mother of Sophie Brannan, our little girl who was killed five weeks ago. Marie had not been well before Sophie's death and became critically ill in the last week.

"Our prayers and the prayers of everyone who reads this, please, are for her dad, husband Graham and wee boy Graham, 13.

"Too much sorrow for them."

Christopher Hannah, 32, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court in November in connection with Sophie's death.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
