THE mother of murder victim Moira Jones says she wants everyone in Glasgow to celebrate her daughter's life at a special event being held in her memory.

Bea Jones is still haunted each day by the horror of 40-year-old Moira's "vile and barbaric" rape and torture in Queen's Park after being abducted yards from her home in May, 2008.

She tries to focus on all the good memories of her daughter, who was a sales adviser, but says sometimes "awful things" come into her head she can't shake off.

The retired teacher, 73, has thrown herself into a new fund-raising event - Moira's Run - to celebrate her daughter's life in the park where she was killed.

The 5K run, which will be held at 9.45am on Sunday, October 19, has received hundreds of entries and cash raised will go towards The Moira Fund, set up by her mother to help people whose relatives were murdered.

Fife-born Ms Jones, who lives in Weston, Staffordshire, said: "I am delighted this run is a celebration of Moira's life, mostly because I cannot relate to the word celebrate but I am very pleased other people can.

"I want to celebrate but I don't know how.

"I find it very touching that other people want to celebrate and remember her. I approve of that.

"I wanted to keep Moira's memory alive in a positive way."

Ms Jones and her family will be taking part in the run, as well as helping to organise it along with officers from the Police Scotland Violence Reduction Unit.

When Ms Jones visits Glasgow, she always visits the park because her daughter loved it so much.

She said: "The park meant a lot to Moira, she liked being in such a beautiful place.

"I want people to enjoy everything about it and not to think of the terrible things that happened there."

Moira's killer, Slovakian Marek Harcar, now 39, was jailed for 25 years in 2009 after being found guilty of raping, robbing and killing Moira.
