Mother of victim fears new sex attack

The mother of a schoolgirl who had to jump into a canal to escape a sex attacker has said the suspect must be caught as soon a possible, before he tries to harm someone else.

Her 15-year-old daughter was walking along the Union Canal path near Ratho outside Edinburgh after getting off a bus from the city at around 5.30pm on Wednesday when a man grabbed her from behind.

She struggled free and ran back towards Ratho. The man followed her so she jumped into the canal to escape and he ran off. She then got out of the water and called the police.
