A MOTORIST has been killed on the A82 in the Highlands in a collision with a pick-up vehicle that closed the route in both directions.

The victim died after sustaining serious injuries in the accident between Spean Bridge and Fort William at around 2.40pm yesterday. The driver of the other vehicle, a Ford Transit, was taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William, but was not thought to be seriously injured. Local diversions were in place and police appealed for witnesses.

Meanwhile, a 91-year-old man has died more than a week after his 86-year-old wife died when the car they were in crashed into a roundabout. The man, who was driving, had been in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, following the incident at The Centre roundabout in the town's Cornwall Way on February 20.
