A FIVE-POINT plan to reinvigorate Prestwick airport has been laid out by an Ayrshire MP, with a link to Heathrow and the air mail sorting from Edinburgh to Prestwick among the suggestions.

Brian Donohoe, Labour MP for Central Ayrshire, met with Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon yesterday to outline the plan, drawn up in conjunction with aviation experts.

The report recommends reinstating flights from Prestwick to London Heathrow by ferrying passengers to the hub via nearby RAF Northholt. Overnight air mail sorting could move from Edinburgh to Prestwick, adding additional surface access time for flights into the capital.
