MSP injured in bag snatch attack

An MSP is recovering following an attack which left her with broken fingers on both hands.

Labour politician Margaret McDougall, 65, was attacked close to her home in Irvine, Ayrshire, on Friday.

The regional MSP for West Scotland had left her office and went to a cash machine shortly before she was approached by a man who tried to steal her bag.

Ms McDougall's fingers were broken during the struggle, and she was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment. Her wedding ring was cut off due to swelling.

She told a newspaper: "We had a bit of a struggle which left me in the middle of the road fighting for my bag. The strap broke and he got away."

Ms McDougall described her attacker as being in his 20s, about 5ft 9in and thin. He was wearing blue jeans and a black parka-style jacket with grey fur on the hood.
