SCOTLAND'S first multi-faith cemetery and crematorium is being built in Edinburgh.

The facility, modelled on world heritage-listed Woodland Cemetery, in Stockholm, will allow people of any faith to be buried side by side.

It is estimated that 1,300 cremations and 700 burials will take place each year at the 64-acre site at the Edmonstone Estate to the east of Edinburgh.

Cemeteries across Scotland are becoming overcrowded and it is hoped the new site will help meet the needs of the local community.
