A murder hunt has been launched after a 60-year-old man was found dead in his home.

Arthur Green's body was found at the property in Pleasantfield Road, Prestwick, Ayrshire last week.

The death was initially treated as suspicious by police.

However, the investigation has now been upgraded to a murder inquiry following the results of a post-mortem examination.

Now police want to speak to anyone who may have spoken to or seen Mr Green in the hours before his body was found.

Mr Green was last seen alive around 10.30pm on Wednesday 19 November

It wasn't until around 8am the following morning that his body was found by a shocked relative and called the police and an ambulance.

Detective Inspector Alan McAlpine of the Major Investigation Team said: "A murder inquiry has been launched into the death of Arthur Green.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing in relation to this incident and officers are continuing to study CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on whoever is responsible for this attack."

"I would like to remind those living in the community that incidents of this nature are extremely rare. As this is now a major inquiry, additional patrols will be deployed in the area."

"If anyone was close to the Pleasantfield Road area of Prestwick on the evening Wednesday 19 November, or the morning on Thursday 20 November, we would ask that you come forward with any information."

"I am sure that there are some witnesses to this attack who have not yet come forward to police, and I would urge anyone with information that may assist police enquiries to contact officers as a matter of urgency."

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to contact the major incident room at Govan police station in Glassgow on 101.
