DETECTIVES have launched a murder inquiry into the death of a man who was last seen alive 18 days ago.

James Grant, 59, was found dead at his home at Kingsway Court, Scotstoun, on Wednesday afternoon after police officers were called to the address by concerned relatives who had been unable to contact him.

Following a post-mortem examination on Thursday night, Strathclyde Police yesterday confirmed that Mr Grant, who was last seen on May 8, had been murdered in his ninth-floor flat.

Officers are now trying to piece together his final movements and are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area in a bid to track down his killer.

Detective Chief Inspector John McDonald, who is leading the investigation, said Mr Grant could have been murdered any time since May 8 and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

He said: "The last sighting of Mr Grant was around 1pm on Tuesday, May 8. So far, we have been unable to trace anyone who has seen or spoken to him since that date.

"We are trying to establish when he died and it is possible that he may have been murdered anytime from May 8.

"I have a large number of officers in the area carrying out house-to-house inquiries and reviewing CCTV recordings."

The officer added: "It is crucial that I speak with anyone who saw Mr Grant between 1pm on Tuesday, May 8, and Wednesday, May 23, as they may hold vital information that can assist me in finding who is responsible for this murder.

"I'm also keen to trace all of Mr Grant's friends and associates and I urge them to contact the incident room in order that my officers can speak with them."

Anyone who has information on Mr Grant's murder is asked to urgently contact Anderston police station on 0141 532 3270 or Crime- stoppers on 0800 555 111 where callers can remain anonymous.
