A murder inquiry has been launched after the death of a man found seriously injured in his own home.

John McCallum, 49, was discovered in his property in Meldrum Street, Whitecrook, Clydebank, at around 9.30pm last Thursday.

He was taken by ambulance to Glasgow's Western Infirmary where he died on Saturday.

A post-mortem examination has now taken place and police are treating the death as murder.

Detective Inspector George McAllister, of Police Scotland's Major Investigations Team, said: "We are currently carrying out door-to-door inquiries within the local area in an attempt to find out the whereabouts of Mr McCallum prior to 9.30pm on Thursday.

"I'd also like to speak to anyone who was in Meldrum Street on Thursday evening and may have either heard a disturbance from within Mr McCallum's home, noticed anyone entering or leaving the address or hanging about within the street."
