SIR David Murray is to sell off part of the firm that made him millions, amid signs that his once-powerful business empire is struggling.

Murray Metals, which the former Rangers chairman founded when he was only 23, is being put on the market "in whole or in parts".

The sale has been revealed in the accounts of Murray International Holdings, which were published last week.

Graeme Hill, managing director of Murray Metals Holdings, said that a buyer is being sought for the general steels section of the business, allowing the firm to concentrate on speciality metals.

He said: "It is clear that to remain in this market would require more investment and development and, as it is no longer a strategic core sector, we have decided to withdraw from particular general steel products."
