SCOTLAND'S national galleries have teamed up with internet giant Google to put more than 100 of their masterpieces in a high- definition online gallery.

The National Galleries of Scotland yesterday announced the partnership, the only one of its kind in Scotland, with search engine Google, which will see 150 works of art from the national collection put online.

The works, including paintings by Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Raeburn and Titian, are now part of the Google Art online gallery, it was announced at a press conference in Paris yesterday.

The online gallery – from which images from the galleries' own picture library department cannot be downloaded or copied –now includes Titian's Venus Rising from the Sea, which was bought by the galleries in 2003 for £11 million.

Other images from the Edinburgh galleries going online include Van Gogh's Olive Trees and Orchard in Blossom, as well as Monet's Seascape, Velazquez's Old Woman Cooking Eggs and works by Scottish painters such as SJ Peploe, William McTaggart and Joseph Crawhall.
