THE Boys' Brigade has appointed a new chief executive to take over from this summer.

Andrew Johnston will take on the post from July 13. He succeeds Steve Dickinson, who has been chief executive since 2004. Mr Dickinson is leaving to become chief executive of the The Global Fellowship of Christian Youth, the international family of uniformed Christian youth organisations which includes the Boys' Brigade.

Mr Johnston has been involved with a number of Christian organisations over his 30 year career, including the Methodist Church and Christian Solidarity Worldwide, and is experienced in commercial development, strategy, fundraising and communications experience.

He said: "I am delighted to be joining The Boys Brigade and looking forward to working alongside volunteers and staff across the UK & RoI. The Boys' Brigade plays a vital role in transforming the lives of children and young people, and making a difference in the communities it serves, and it is an immense privilege to be able to be part of this".

"Having led a church based youth group, supported my own BB Company and served in the headquarters of the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs, I know just how important the work of The Boys' Brigade is in our nations today. I can't wait to begin my BB adventure."

The Boys' Brigade is the UK's oldest uniformed youth organisation and was founded in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith.

Mr Johnston will be based at the UK & RoI Headquarters in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
